Rotherham Metro Open meeting
Farnham Swimming Club ventured further a field recently when they traveled to Sheffield to compete in the Rotherham Metro Open meeting, held at the Sheffield Ponds Forge pool. Undaunted by the occasion, and the quality of the opposition, the Farnham squad gave a good account of themselves.
Christian Miller was in superb form, battling hard for gold medals in the 50m backstroke and 100m breastroke events and a silver medal in the 50m breastroke. He also gained final placings in two other events. Stacey Gibbons also rose to the challenge. with a strong gold medal performance in the 100m butterfly and silver medal positions in the 100m breastroke and 50m butterfly events.
In the younger age groups Adenais Vachon continued her recent good form with silver in both the 50m and 100m freestyle events, Rosie Webster was 2nd in the 50m Backstroke, Caroline Shearer was 2nd in the 100m backstroke and William Miller also achieved silver in the 100m backstroke.
In addition to the Farnham medalists there were strong performances from Emily Webster, Adenais Vachon, Christian Miller, Rosie Webster, William Miller and Alice Shearer who all gained creditable final placings against strong competition.
In total the Farnham squad achieved three gold, eight silvers and 18 final placings during the course of this highly competitive event. Chief Coach Arthur McMahon was full of praise for his squads performance "who showed their potential against quality opposition".
