Farnham swimmers pipped into second Place

Farnham gave a great showing at the recent Luke Lawless A swimming gala on Sat 7th May held at Dorking Sports Centre. It was nip and tuck all evening, before Farnham were finally beaten into second place by Epsom. Other competing clubs at the gala included Dorking, Sutton & Cheam and Hythe.

There were some excellent wins from the Farnham swimmers including Rhiannon Davies (U16 100m Free), Richard Hall (U14 50m Backstroke), Adenais Vachon (U14 50m Free, U12 50m Free, U12 50m Fly), Fleur Robertson (U16 100m Backstroke), David Smith (U16 100m Breaststroke), Freya Robertson (U12 50m Backstroke) and William Miller (U12 50m Backstroke). The Farnham girls U12 relay team of Freya Robertson, Rosie Webster, Catherine Jefferies and Adenais Vachon were unbeatable all evening, winning both the Freestyle and Medley relays. There were further relay wins for Farnham in the boys U12 medley relay and the girls U16 Freestyle relay. Aside from the Farnham winners there were also some fine second places from Paul Roberts (Open 100m Breaststroke), George Traylen (U12 50m Free), David Pallant (U14 50m Fly), Stacy Gibbons (U16 100m Fly) and Rosie Webster (U12 50m Breaststroke) The event culminated with the squadron Freestyle relay which, as usual, generated much excitement and noise. After an very close (and debatable) decision Neil Metcalfe brought Farnham home in first place by a whisker. A great end to a successful gala.

This was the final gala for Farnham coach Arthur McMahon who can retire a happy man with the squad of swimmers he has developed during his time with the club.
